Arbozu

Arbozu is a unique Xaela typically found anywhere between Thanalan, Dravania, or Gyr Abania. Predominantly found clad in silver garmets, with a fishing pole and a harpoon tipped with the tail of a Raen slung on its back, and a set of sharp, yellowed teeth to compliment its yellowed eyes. Easily recognizable by the silver bow in its hair, and the uncharacteristically large tail compared to its small body. Said tail gives it an immense edge compared to other marine life when in the water, as it allows it to reach speeds otherwise only achieveable with immense aetheric manipulation. Typically non-hostile on contact, unless found while on the hunt for Wavekin or Spoken.

Description & Story [ edit ]

Originally native to the Azim Steppe, this aquatic Xaela was relocated to Eorzea from a young age, kept in a cell by a defector group of Garleans. Within captivity, the Arbozu has no room to prosper nor learn about the world it lives in, leading to apparent naivety. It's unknown just what happened during its captivity, though it gained many scars, and its tail grew to the size seen today. It lived this way for twenty turns, before finally being released after its tail grew nigh impenetrable. Its first exposure to the star, the lush forests and dense foliage of The Black Shroud, nearly ended in its starvation. Luckily, it managed to adapt to its surroundings, and after spying an unfamiliar species eat a fish it caught from a nearby river, Arbozu mimicked this to allow it to survive. It returned to it's captors after only a few days of surviving, to which it was put under the manhunting jobs which it can still be found doing to this very day.Noteable details about the Arbozu are it's horn's being asymetrical, with it's right horn being noticably chipped compared to it's left. It's eyes and teeth are both the same shade of yellow, with it's teeth being razor-sharp akin to a shark's. Said eyes lack any light within them, the yellow sclera housing near abyssally purple irises. The tail of an Arbozu is impossible to pierce by any means. It's body is coated in a mixture of scale and scar, where there's typically one or the other in any given point along it's skin.Elementally, it is highly susceptible to Levin, susceptible to Ice, resistant to Fire, and nearly immune to Water.

Behavior & Hooks [ edit ]

An Arbozu fighting against a Brass Blade.

  1. An Arbozu is typically found adorned in a silver angler's outfit.

  2. Its tail is almost uncannily large compared to the rest of its body.

  3. It can quite frequently be found near any body of water across Eorzea.

  4. A scholarly report on an Arbozu could be a ticket into high education, such as Sharlayan.

  5. Potential targets for its hunts include any aquatic creature, and any spoken humanoid.

  6. Harping on the previous point, the Sahagin are highly susceptible to be hunted by an Arbozu.

  7. When swimming, it can reach speeds that easily surpass any non-magical boat or marine life.

  8. If in a conversation with one, a mere mention of fish is all it takes for one to prattle about them.

  9. If in combat with one, it's possible to overtake it on land, but nigh impossible to beat it in the sea.

  10. For reiteration, most, if not all, attempts to attack an Arbozu in the sea will lead to death.

Catching An Arbozu [ edit ]

Hunter on land, Arbozu on land
In this instance, typical stalking & trapping strategies should work against an Arbozu. Keeping a firm watch on its movements from afar, staying out of sight, yet still with an unbroken view on it. Setting up a trap after its movements have been noted, or as it's at its most distracted. Or, opting to simply attempt to knock it out in one fell swoop, when it's least expected, and unable to fight back. Alternatively, preying on an Arbozu's elemental weaknesses, Levin & Ice, will quickly put it at a severe disadvantage. A simple cast of Thunder or Blizzard, or use of another Levin or Ice spell, is typically all it take to incapacitate one.

Using a fishing rod, trolling net, or even a harpoon against an Arbozu in the water are all ineffective. The most effective way to both lure an Arbozu out from hiding, and secure the catch, is a technique coined "Bottlefishing". This method involves obtaining any full bottle of booze as bait, lacing its contents with potent sedatives, and attaching a heavy, glimmering object onto it. Tossing the bottle into the sea will serve as ample bait for an Arbozu, whether it drifts to shallow water, or the deep end. If the bait is deployed close enough to an active Arbozu, then it's almost certainly to be taken, with its unconcious body soon to wash up on shore within the next bell after sending that bottle out.
